How It Starts :
Like in Males, baldness can also occur in females. It can be Early Onset starting in late teens to early twenties or Late onset which occurs between the age of 40 to 50. While the early onset type has a Family history of baldness either on Paternal or Maternal side, Late onset type starts after Menopause when the Female hormones get reduced and the male hormones ratio goes up a bit causing hormonal imbalance leading to hair loss.
Types Of Baldness:
Unlike in Males, there is no complete hair loss causing total baldness in Females. There is diffuse thinning of hair all over the head . it can manifest as widening of Hair Part in the middle with bilateral thinning causing a “Christmas Tree” Pattern. According to Ludwig’s classification, there are three grades present. The Frontal Hair Line is retained and frontal, mid scalp and crown loss can occur as the grades progress.
How To Prevent Future Hair Loss :
There are Many causes of Hair fall, Hair Thinning & Hair Loss in Females. The Doctor would examine the scalp, assess the loss, evaluate the reasons for it by getting a few blood tests done and treating the underlying cause accordingly to arrest future Hair loss.
How To Get Back Lost Hair :
In early stage of hair loss, correct diagnosis can be made and medications can revert the hair loss. If the Hair loss is extensive, a surgery may be warranted. Hair can be restored through Hair Transplant Surgery in Female Patients. This hair keeps growing through out life. |
